Internal Medicine Specialist with special interest in endocrinology - hormonal disorders
Dr Amy Lam
BVSc(Hons1) GradCertVetStud MANZCVS MRCVS FANZCVS
Registered Internal Medicine Specialist.
How can I help?
Remote consultations (vet-vet)
On-site consultations:
Small Animal Specialist Hospital North Ryde
Monday - Wednesday
Brindabella Referrals Canberra as needed
What’s a remote consult?
I work with GP vets to help them with tricky internal medicine cases, when referral to a specialist in a different city is not an option. The consultation process is limited to veterinarians who practice a high standard of care.
What is involved:
1) Contact me directly for my availabilty (usually Thursday afternoon / Friday afternoons)
2) Fill in the details on the forms below
3) Send me the medical history, imaging and pathology results for the case
4) I will review all provided information prior to the time booked
5) I will create an assessment and care plan for the veterinarian to facilitate, and I am very happy to have feedback to modify the care plan. We can also do
a telephone consult - where we discuss the case details over the phone. A detailed care plan will be provided after the consultation.
Please note: I would prefer not to speak directly to the owners of pets. This ensures that the clinician in charge of the case continues the care of the sick pet. I am very happy to see pets and their carers together at SASH Vets in Sydney.
What is the result:
1) Determine the problem
2) Assess care options available
3) Determine if further diagnsotics are required
4) Create a care plan
Understand the limations and benefits of the plan.
What’s my story?
I am a medicine specialist. I help sick pets, and people understand what is causing the illness and what we can do to improve their medical health.
Looking after sick pets is a very challenging job, but I love putting the clues of the puzzle together, and creating solutions to ensure pets can thrive again, or creating realistic guidelines for quality of life care.
How did I get here?
Being a vet is in my DNA. I grew up in Canberra, with my Dad (Dr John Aspley Davis) showing me the ropes at Kippax Vet from a very young age. Dad always had high standards, and welcomed specialists to work with him. Whilst I was studying, I quickly realised I wanted to specialise and be the best I could. I chose medicine as it was hard. I love a challenge. As I got into my specialist training, I realised internal medicine really is REALLY HARD. As I understood the mechanisms of disease, it helped me unlock the key to some of the most complex problems. I have been very lucky to have worked across the world with really inspiring people in so many disciplines. I want to share that knowledge and help as many pets and their families as I can.
Over the last couple of years I have developed a passion in endocrinology and have started further study in this area. I have incredible mentors - and now I would like to share my experience and learnings with you and your patients!
